In April, I took a drive through alamo canyon to see where the model rocket contest was held. There is a dry lake there, noted as Delamar Dry Lake on the topo map. I believe this is the Texas Lake that you hear the pilots speak about on the scanner. The road to the canyon starts here: N37.33318 W115.13871 At this point the road splits N37.35927 W114.97295 taking you to either side of the dry lake If you do a search on Delamar Dry lake (pehaps just Delamar), you will see that the area had some bit of history regarding the X15. emergency landing http://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/pao/History/x15conf/pilots.html x15 test flight serious model rocket launch, and there is still one crashed rocket missing...

Unfortunately, the town of Delamar and Delamar Dry Lake are both simply called Delamar on most web pages, so Delamar brings up lots of unintended hits.
