The angle of view of a 85mm lens is 24 degrees.

With tan theta = opposite/adjacent (rise over run), you can compute the width that the lens covers for a given distance. The object width will scale based on the film being 36mm wide. That's all you need if you want to double check my math. That said, here is a chart with the distance from the object in feet and the width of the object:

distance(ft) object width(feet)
500 3.9
1000 7.9
1500 11.8
2000 15.7
2500 19.6
3000 23.6
3500 27.5
4000 31.4
4500 35.3
5000 39.3
5500 43.2
6000 47.1
6500 51.0
7000 55.0
7500 58.9
8000 62.8
8500 66.8
9000 70.7
9500 74.6
10000 78.5
