I have never tried the RS #20-176. I bought their Discone a while ago, but it was so flimsy that it broke when I assembled it.

I have a Log Periodic (150-1300MHz), pointed towards the Ranges, and an omni-directional Discone (118-450MHz) in my attic in the SW corner of the valley. The discone does well, but since most traffic that I am interested in is in the general direction of the Ranges, for most of my monitoring the directional Log Periodic does a lot better.

I just set up a MilTenna Omni (see attached link) in Rachel. I am very impressed with it, not only in mil. and civilian air band, but pretty much from 108 to 450+ MHz. It is very low profile, and will easily fit in the attic. Another one may go up in my attic here in Vegas soon.
