I suppose it is within the realm of possibilities that the VOR could speak in "code" regarding the weather. However, the VOR and associated electronics is probably COTS that is FAA approved. I had the misfortune to be involved with some problems regarding gear that was FAA approved, and you can change very little of the hardware without having to resubmit the gear for certification.

It was an interesting exercise. Most people took it for granted that the VOR was Grooms. Somebody with a fancy GPS that has a barometer could park near the TTR or basecamp and see if the data makes sense.

Note that the TTR weather station info can be read online. The same goes for the range 74 weather.
