Much like pirate radio stations, people tend to run out of steam with podcasts. [Every time I listen to Berkeley Liberation Radio (104.1FM), they are just playing music, so I'm not sure who is getting liberated. ;-)]

One idea for a podcast would be to do a Skype or SIP conference call, i.e. the chat room but with voice. Since Skype is now a business, I think the user limit is small, like 5 or 6. I don't know if SIP, being open source, has a limit. The multiple participants keeps the show from becoming a speech.

Leo Laporte was doing a Skype based podcast between radio gigs. I'd say his podcast kept him public enough so that he could get back on radio.

The real key to getting traffic for the podcast is to have a buddy at Apple, i.e. get on Itunes.
