I'm probably stating the obvious, but with no gas available in Rachel, if you plan on hanging out in the ranges a while, I suggest filling a small gas can in Alamo or Ash Springs. Carrying gas in the car isn't all that bad IF the can is full. It is those half full cans full of gas vapors that can be a problem.

Unless you drive a hybrid, a 2.5 gallon plastic gas container can be put into your tank once you reach Rachel or the front gate. At times, I've brought two 2.5 gallon cans, feeding the beast one can immediately when I got to town and stashing the other one in the desert in a wash, which is about as shady of a place as you can get.

On my last visit, I made it back to Ash Springs with about a gallon to spare. I didn't know about the Quick Pik being shutdown when I headed out.

BTW, the new owner invested in a sign for the place, though the name escapes me. The new owners acumen is certainly questionable given the shutdown. As I see it, all revenue sources are now history.
