some of us on the site have been on the tour, and found it worthwhile. i believe the shows you have seen on television were produced prior to 9/11. security has changed dramatically since then. Connie Pardew wrote a trip report on the tour that is posted in the trip reports section. I dont know anyone that has received any special tour privileges for a long time. Dont forget their is a tour of the Yucca Mtn. facility available also.
