SonicBlue UCHAV

Some days ago, I was presented with a weird new coming from the famous DefenseTech blog. That new was in fact a link to another page that talked about a small engeeneging start-up, SonicBlue. SonicBlue proposed a familiy of new air vehicles, some manned some unmanned, that, if built, could revolutionise the way the USAF conducts his operations: hypersonic speeds through TBCC (turbine based combined cycle), stationary flight capability (thanks to a set of electrical fans that draw power from a big electrical generator attached to the main jet engine)and enough power left to feed a battery of power hungry DEW ... that sounded me like the classic hoax, sadly so abundant in our current pork-barrel-spending-days. But just when I was about to forget that bizarre company, I found some even more strange material: It appears that behind SonicBlue are the heavyweights of the US aerospace industry: Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and... LibertyWorks!!Yes, the secret projects arm of the former Allison engine company -now part of Rolls Royce NA- and also known as AADC(Allison Advanced Development Company). It also appears that the base engine for SonicBlue's main porposal,(they call it UCHAV, or Unmanned Combat Hybrid Air Vehicle) will eventually be the RR/GE F136. All that suuggest that perhaps we are before an intentional leak to obtain funds for a new secret aircraft. At least, the presence of such industry giants adds some credibility to SonicBlue's proposal. Here are a couple of interesting links:

The UCHAV also reminded me the years-old rumour of the hypothetical Senior Citizen and its ultra STOL abilites:

Strange, isn't it?? What do you think?
