Jerry died of prostate cancer. If you google his name, you will see the guy did some rather nasty exploration such as climbing Telescope Peak in Death Valley. [7 miles one way, 3000ft elevation change, and you start at 8000ft] I've done a similar hike at Mt. Charleston. Big deal, yeah. Impossible, no. Of course, I used 9 liters of water, but some people can hike on a third of what I use.

Think back to Tom Mahood's story about hiking along the Meadow Valley with the old guy. Some of these desert rats are tougher than you think.
