My family and some friends were in Rachel over Labor Day weekend (and the weather was nearly perfect). On Saturday night, we rode atv's down to the guard shack on the road just to the south of Rachel. On the way back, we took a side road where there are several large metal wheels that look like cable reels. Up the road a ways, we found a metal box in the road covered with weeds and rocks. The box was no larger than the average size sprinkler valve box. At one end was a locking wheel about the size of a coffee saucer. I opened it up (since there was no signs, etc). It opened up into a deep hole that we could not see the bottom of. Inside, we could make out a metal pole almost to the top of the box with some kind of metalic bulb at the top. I then closed the box since I wasn't sure what it was. Does anyone know what this is? The box looks old and worn down, but the thing inside looks clean and fairly new.
