OK, maybe 50 miles is an extreme, but the site I mentioned, http://pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/recenteqs/Maps/115-37.html, showed a 3.8 quake south of Alamo on Monday. But after a review it's now moved east of Alamo near Texas dry lake and is listed as 4.4 magnitude. That's at least 15 miles. Granted, they've got lots of sensors out there, but the automatic system doesn't always get it right.
