As far as the Janets on a weekend you may see them all parked there and you can get really close. Nellis usually pretty well shuts down Saturday and Sunday.
If you go North on Lake Mead Blvd and turn left on Hollywood Blvd. you will run into the Hollywood Gate. It is unmanned and has some elevation above the base.You can get some pretty good shots from there of anything thats parked in the open. For a better shot go back to Lake Mead Blvd and turn left to Los Feliz and take another left and go to the dead end. Their is a baseball field there and if you go to the back of the field you can see the whole base. You are farther away but way higher up. I have shot from there with a 300mm lens and have gotten some really good pics. If your there on a day they are flying Gate A or B at the Las Vegas Speedway across from the base will get you some good pics
