As far as the flying near the base goes, you could fly up and down the border of the restricted zone all day if you wanted to in theory. The guys who did it in the Cessna had a GPS system that shows the restricted area and you wouldn't be breaking any FAA rules by flying outside it. Of course they could send up fighters to intercept you, but you would still be legal. My buddy has been thinking about flying his plane out to Vegas and I brought up flying near Area 51. We would just monitor the controling frequency and 121.5 the whole time. If we ever decide to do this I am gonna have to get in touch with some of you with all the great equipment. Sure we could get some great pictures from the air.
