The FAA has to handle Groom Lake with a wink and a nudge. They know it exists, but it's like the crazy aunt that nobody in the family talks about.

Bald Mountain has standard FAA radar on it. [Of course, it has plenty of stuff just for Groom.] You can detect the L band pinging from Bald Mountain.

The FAA has some history with the DOD, especially when it comes to surveillance. You can google JSS for more info. Since you indicate yor are in Norcal, there is a JSS on Mount Tamalpias. It has FAA radar and a DOD Tacan.

The question is does how exactly does the DOD filter the raw data from the FAA radar on Bald Mountain. Does the FAA see a blip without any relevant ID. Jim Bob might be able to elaborate.
