The photos in Google Earth were taken from a satellite that indescriminately takes pictures of random areas on Earth and uploads them to Google Earth's servers. It's pure chance that they happened to get hi-res pictures of Area 51. If you look at some parts of Africa, there are 40-foot wide chunks of hi-res image surrounded by blurriness.
