My most detailed official maps jump from 1955 to 1960 and there are some less detailed maps from 1957. I have not yet found any maps from 1958/1959. Project 51/Area 51 was cited in AEC news releases in 1959. The block of land was added to the Nevada Test Site in June 1958 and would have received its area number then. The "Area 51" number disappears from the NTS maps around 1978/1979.
