OT - New TSA Procedures

The TSA issued a press release today saying that beginning 22-Dec 2005 there will be more random screenings and fewer prohibited items such as multi tools, small scissors, and screwdrivers under seven inches aloud onboard commercial aircraft.

After many years of being safe in the air in the United States since 9/11, why would the the government become what I believe to be more lax on the items that some of the people used to hijack the aircraft with four years ago? Why not just keep the current prohibited item list and increase random screenings rather than put the public at risk if a terrorist were on board?

Maybe lighting security measures onboard aircraft is just what any number of government agencies wants. Use the American citizens as bait and a well placed US air marshal would uncover a terrorist sleeper cell a whole lot faster than conventional means.
