I assume you are referring to the road that connects Hwy 93 south of Alamo to Hwy 95 near the Mt. Charleston turnoff, leading past Desert Lake (dry lake).

The answer is yes and no. Yes, the section that is shown cutting off a corner of the NTTR can be driven. You will see restricted area signs to the west, but no fence.

BUT, about a year ago I found the road closed at the south end of Desert Lake for about two miles due to soft and muddy ground. It looked like some vehicles tried to make it, but unless you have a serious truck and a backup vehicle to pull you out if needed, I would not recommend it. I am not sure, but I would not be surprised if it is still closed.
