Comparing a Blackhawk and a V-22 is like comparing a Cessna with a C-130!

The V-22 is designed to replace the CH-46 and CH-53, not the UH-1 or UH/SH-60! They have very different missions. The only thing they have in common is that they can take off and land vertically, and that they're basically transport aircraft.

The V-22 can fly almost twice as fast, and carry three times the load over three times the distance of a UH/SH-60. The UH-1 isn't even in the same league as either!

How can production "speed up", if noone buys them?
Boeing aren't going to build a heap of them and then drop the price by $20M a unit just in case someone wants to buy them!

New technology costs money but in the long run, if the V-22 is successful, it will spawn a whole new range of commercial and military VTOL transport aircraft far more capable than we currently have.
