I have the Garmin Etrex Legend (the blue one). I think you can get one for about $175. To me this has the most usable features for the money. The higher priced Garmins have more memory but I have found that the more memory you use the slower it goes. I've never run out of memory yet. One tip for the desert--always mark the location of your car before you go out hiking. It's easy to forget but is so handy when it starts getting dark!
