I think you misread the restrictions. You need to be able to prove your camcorder is functional, i.e. it will power up. What I've noticed about Edwards is they aren't all that fussy at the check point, but the amount of on-base security is much higher than at other shows. I think I posted my experience with some jerk trying to smoke on the flight line. Nothing like being hauled off by 3 security dudes. Of course, not wearing a shirt and having prison tatoos doesn't help matters. There are two approaches to getting around the backpack restriction. One is to use those photo jackets with mega pockets. I've seen guys that if the hardware were exposed, they would look like cyborgs. The other is to use a seriously large fanny pack. I've also seen people carry gear in plastic shopping bags.
