The silver ball (last photo) is a radar calibration device. I still don't have the story down 100%, but basically the balls are released from stealth aircraft to give the radar something to calibrate on.

The silver balls have a different use along the border. They are easier to see from a chopper than the orange posts. Every so often an orange post is replace by a post with a ball just hanging on it. I wasn't aware there are any near the front gate to photograph. [I take people back to Bald Mountain to photograph one near that border.] When you climb Hawkeye Hill, you can see some of the silver balls that represent the old border (now within the new border.] If I were running the show, I'd take the old border down. Then again, if I were running the show, I'd open the damn gates and let everyone in.
