The lines are marked on the lakebed as overshoot safeties. They allow a plane to safely come to a stop on the lakebed if it overshoots the northern end of the runway, even if the brakes fail. It appears you have a virus that automatically inserts the links in your post. I recommend you run anti virus software such as adaware or hijackthis on your system.
