Notes From Iraq

I have recently returned from a tour as a contractor in Iraq. I was stationed at Balad AB, 40 miles north of Baghdad.

I am a black plane fan and long time reader of this list.

I saw 2 interesting planes flying daily and thought you guys would be interested. The first as near as I can figure from research is the Hunter. It's an Army UAV. I saw it fly daily, but did not know what it was. I checked the net and found the picture of it. I am sure this is the one I saw, but the data available seems to say its out of production since the 90's??

The second is the RC-12. It's a King Air. Flown by the Army with tons of antennas, used for intel gathering. These 2 were in addition to the Predator, which I saw a lot, but only once with the Hellfires on board.

Another interesting note was the Army's use of the C-23 Sherpa. They are using it extensively for cargo and hauling people around. It flies at about 100 feet off the deck. Photos can be found at the link.
