Hi Good point about about JATO! (Actually RATO) It was similar somewhat, although I'm sure I would have seen the flames from where I was standing. I have heard and seen a few C-130 RATO takeoffs at the Abbortsford airshow, etc. The sound that night sounded like the world was splitting open, and the sky was tearing; loudest noise I ever heard, much louder than any afterburner takeoff I've ever seen/heard. The JATO/RATO sound was somewhat similar, this was just on a much more grandiose scale. Christian
