The naked eye can resolve one arc minute. To split a double light souce, I compute the lights need to be 29ft apart if 100kft away. [Convert arc minute to radians, then use s=r*theta] This is at the point of resolution, i.e. not a really clear pattern. Throw in 6x magnification, you could resolve a triangular pattern on a craft of reasonable size.
