Mystery structure at RAF Machrihanish

Joerg,

The brown structure in the photo (link below) is likely related to EMS (USAF shorthand for environmental support). EMS provides ground-support services for aircraft including auxiliary power units, oxygen support (the silver tank to the left of the building is likely NOT a propane tank but but rather LOX), and ejection and crew egress systems (note the tall structure is obviously a parachute loft). The tall-roofed building (the one with the garage doors) has a shallower roof slope than much of the rest of the building. That, and the space between the top of the doors and the eaves of the roof suggests there may be an overhead gantry crane inside, handy for loading equipment on truck beds.
