I think werD is hinting that the crash might not be a U-2 but rather something else. The DOD has been known to lie on occasion with regards to what has crashed. [I'm sure everyone is shocked at the notion of the DOD misleading the press. ;-) ]

I haven't checked yet, but rec.aviation.military should have all the rumors you can stand.
