The "line" is about 48 miles long and crosses terrain varying from valley flatland to steep, rocky, rugged mountains that any self-respecting mountain sheep would avoid. At the south, it joins with the Range 61 restricted boundary and to the north, it joins with the TTR restricted boundary. About 1/4th of the Area 51 section of the line is fenced, the rest is not. The only structures visible from any part of the line are the GLR Guardhouse, the back gate (north gate) guardhouse, the facilities atop of Bald Mountain, and a couple of very remote antenna sites. At no point can you see the base or the runways. The nearest you actually get to the base as you follow the line is about 11 or 12 miles in the area south of Groom Lake Road.
