Unfortunately the ads are neccessary due to a complete lack of financial support from our readers. If we could raise some significant donations, we would not need the ads. I am personally out over $1000 for the campout, and it has not even started. The response to my call for donations to help out? One $20 donation (which is much appreciated, don't get me wrong!). So, for the time being, we will be running ads as most other sites do to finance our expenses.
