I'm more inclined to think the sensors are some custom project built by EG&G for use by someone else. When I used to work for them, we had tons of custom optical systems that never saw the light of day of a brochure, i.e. open market sales. It looks like only the top pieces are provided and that they get bolted into something else.

What often happens on a government surplus lot sale is you want one item, but they toss in plenty of junk in the lot, so you get stuck with the weird or useless stuff.
