Thanks. I actually did the hike last time the day before Labor Day, and saw some orange lights wobbling around. Probably illumination flares. They were in the opposite direction of the base, however. I'll bring a grill and some wine for my next trip, so if anyone wants to join me, juicy steak will be on me.
