You want to pick a date where you can see the base active at night. It is unlikely there would be much activity on a federal holiday. [Of course, one theory is a federal holiday might be the best time to do something really really secret since there are less people on base.] I've hiked Tikaboo on Sunday's and never saw any tests, so I don't think the lack of personel on base makes much of a difference. You are probably better off delaying your hike a day if you can. Maybe baseball season has started on the base. On that one famous night, Joerg, Bill and myself caught a night game at the base. I don't recall the order of events, but besided the baseball game, we saw night bombinb near Indian Springs and a test on the base. Top it off with a thick steak and a bottle of wine. Yeah baby...
