I would recommend using a Celestron C-5 for photographing the base from Tikaboo. Joerg and I both have used one to acquire some of the better images taken from Tikaboo that appear on this website. The scope will fit in a backpack and has a focal length of 1250 mm, f10. When used with a Canon D-60 or 10-D camera body, the lens yields an effective focal length of 2000 mm. No tripods are needed – just take two or three empty sandbags that you can use to help cushion the scope in your pack and that you can fill with gravel when you reach the viewpoint. Bracing the camera on top of these sandbags is much steadier than using a tripod, and you don’t need Sherpa to help carry all of your equipment.
