Dave, you actually were within a stones throw (literally) of Andies Mine once... Remember meeting a few of us at our campsite, (The week of the Tailgate Party/BBQ at the Research Center?) You went on to camp somewhere else, but the group I was with spent 3 days back there. SNAFU (BOB) was on that trip. I believe he and a couple others went over the hill top to see it, and look around. I did, but went by myself later that week. Bottom line is, it's a very interesting mine to check out, let alone camp near. Lots of aircraft come through that pass from Sand Spring to Tikaboo. The road in must change from year to year, but it can be done with a car for a good 6-7 miles in. After that, I couldn't be sure what to expect. I think in a lot of cases, even a good 2wd PU could do it.

From our website: As the day progressed, the camp site started getting visitors. The famous Dave Bethke wondered up the road by afternoon. Snafu and RedDawg made it. And, Majestic, by the end of day 2, as well. Not counting Snafu's pet pup, we had 7 with us at base camp. (Bethke did camp at his own secret place. He just came to visit.) http://groomlakeaudubonsociety.netfirms.com/reports/2000_report.htm
