A NOTAM is a Notice to Airmen. Pilots are expected to check NOTAMs for important information that has been posted on route of flight and for destination airports. As a former air traffic controller and small airport manager I had to be aware of changed conditions that were not in published documents. Example: Ice on runway or new restrictions on airport operatiuons or landing conditions. This would also include equipment outages. Check within www.faa.gov/atpubs/ .
