The Boeing JSF (X-32 - the 'UGLY' one) is flying at Edwards now (as of mid-September), and the LM JSF (X-35) is due to fly within the next six weeks.

They will then 'compete' through various tests (capability and budgetry), and the winner will probably be selected in late 2001 to build several YF-? development aircraft before a final production go-ahead is given in around 2003-2004.

Production aircraft should begin to enter service with USAF in 2007, and USMC/USN and RAF a year or so later, assuming there are no delays or cost blowouts!
