I should have mentioned that the 500mm to 700mm is so that the telescope fits in your backpack. That number is for a refractor. For a reflector, due to the folded optics, you can double the length. That is, you should be able to get a 1500mm reflector in your backpack.

For cameras that don't have removable lenses, you can use "afocal" photography, which is what that item in the link did. In afocal photograph, you put a lens in front of the lens. I have the item shown in the link for use with my camcorder. I will admit that it doesn't fill the frame, but what comes through is sharp. I may need a spacer.

Of course, this still requires the purchase of a telescope. Personally, unless you have an urgent need to get the shot instantly, I would bypass these items and just get a used film camera. [Camcorders would be the expection.] You can have the film scanned if you don't have scanner, or even rent a scanner in some towns.
