Hanging out on the ET Highway looking for the mothership, you will see lots of meteors. Except for the patch of sky lit by Vegas, the sky by the ET Highway is quite dark, so the meteor really stands out. With night vision, the ionization trail left in the sky can be seen for about 15 seconds.

One of the more common areas of late to find meteorites is on dry lakes. I haven't read of any findings near the ET Highway, but the dry lake near Edwards (Rosamond) and Bonnie Clair have yielded some meteorites.
