Every administration renames organizations, in theory when their missions are altered. [Bush seems to rename more organizations than is typical.] The NRO became the NGA. Maybe it makes sense since the NGA has maps as well as photographic databases. For whatever reason, the NGA uses the NIMA web address. The NRO was started by Eisenhower, who was the father of many spook projects.

I find the renaming a bit annoying in the sense that an old article will mention an organization that no longer exists, but eventually you find the organization just changed names. DNA becoming DTRA is an example.
