New Aircraft Technology

Hi everyone,
As an engineer, I sometimes do research online,in terms of what new techniques/technology aircraft applications are being studied and some other configurations and stuff not related to this thread...Anyway, below are some links you can copy and paste to check out. I recommend having Adope Acrobat 6 first, since they are all pdf files. Don't worry about the math in some of them. If you gloss over them, you should be able to get a feel for what it is they are trying to do and you can look at the design concepts they are running the tests on for future reference.

For those of you who are wondering about how fluidic controls work, check out the AIAA-2003-2008 document. It's my understanding the X-36 first used this method for thrust yaw vectoring as did the BOP and the X-45. My guess is, they used the split ailerons, or basic wing control surfaces (BOP) for yaw stability, then use the thrust vectoring for control, or more control power. It's hard to say without knowing the flight control set-ups they used, but that's my best guess.

I think you guys will also be really interested in the document about using porous control effectors. It seems they are using material similar to that used to suck off the boundary layer on the YF-23's inlets as primary flight control devices. The article on Micro Drag Generators also falls into this category.

I've also included a set on flying wing characteristics at different sweep angles (A different paper for the three different sweep angles) because you can see they also study a diamond shaped flying wing.

I basically made them in a set on a waverider concept, that could be similar the fast mover, a set on the flying wings and a set relating to advanced fighter technology. Hopefully, this will aid you spotters if you actually do happen to see something, by understanding some of the research that is being carried out.

Take care,
SD
