Good question, I have often wondered how they name the VORs, intersections and other approach fixes. In western PA we have an intersection named Namath. Most that I see where I know the geography seem to be affiliated with local landmarks. Kilma intersection over central NJ is above the old US Army base Camp Kilmer. I’m not aware of a database where you could research the naming of these items.
You would have to get a copy of the previous chart or approach plate to see what the change was. The only charts available online or in print are current. When I get my updates the old ones are trashed immediately.
