Atomic Energy Commission (later Department of Energy) external affairs representatives gave out pamphlets with information about the Nevada Test Site (NTS). Until the late 1970s, the NTS maps (usually on the back cover of the booklet) included Area 51. Details of the airfield were not included, and most of the lakebed was often outside the edge of the map (but not always).

I think it was the REECo newsletter that used to carry the sports scores. Softball teams included the Area 12 Mets, Area 51 8-Ballers, MP Truckers, etc. I have had the good fortune to meet and socialize with some of the 8-Ballers.

Regarding contractor activities at the site, press releases and subsequent newspaper articles have occasionally revealed information about labor disputes and the parties involved. That practice apparently stopped after the Air Force took control of the facility.
