Yes, but as you say, this was many years ago. They had to return all confiscated equipment and film. Since then, they don't bother people with cameras any more.

This photo was taken during the 2000 Peoples Rally. The van is from NBC Channel 3 in Las Vegas, and you can see several cameras set up openly right by the signs.
