Waypoints are not effected by time zone. Bring the GPS as carry-on, but don't use it in flight unless the flight crew approves, which is almost never any more. Get a lock on the airport before you leave, which will help the GPS acquire once you are airborne. No airline lets you run a GPS during takeoff or landing. When you use your GPS in Nevada, but sure to set the datum to NAD83.
