OT: Both examples of the XB-70 did exceed Mach 3. I assume the "*" is to imply that it was operationally limited to that speed. Attached is a very good web site on the XB-70 program.

As a footnote, the Air Force Museum in Dayton is a VERY worthy stop for anybody that reads this site. It has (among other things), a full scale B-2 engineering mockup (it looks like an airworthy airplane to 99.999% of the people out there), a YF-22, an F-117, Tacit Blue, Dark Star, Bird of Prey, B-58, XB-70, SR-71, D-21, many other rare UAVs and just about every airplane that's been in the AF inventory in any number.

Several weeks ago I flew over Edwards during my "day" job. We were at FL350 and I was kicking myself for not having my 35 mm camera with me.

Fly Safe!
