He didn't say he was going to do it, he simply asked what would happen. That is an interesting dilemma. I would assume that whether you can understand the signs or not, you can still be charged with trespassing. If you are driving in France and happen to break every single traffic violation, I would guess that you're not going to get off the hook just because you can't understand French.
