As an FYI, May and September are the best months for the hike. You may do OK with the end of August, but the weather will be quite hot and lightning will be more likely. One problem with hikes late in the year is there may be smoke in the air from whatever is burning in California. The smoke itself isn't the problem, but it does ruin the view.
