Yeah, I've never rented a 4wd, but I figured the insurance would be insanely high/wierd rules... that plus I'm 24, which means that the few places that actually rent to people under 25 have to pay extra fees.

I used to have an isuzu rodeo that was wonderful on 4wd, but it was getting up there in miles and I live in Los Angeles with a real long commute to grad school, so the fuel efficiency was horrible and I sold it for an 'economy car'.

About getting lost or rescued, I do plan on telling multiple people exactly where I'll be and when I will contact them that I'm back. Would it be wise to contact the Lincoln County sheriff? I wish I had a HAM license and knew how to use repeaters... it is one of those essential 'crazy adventurerer in the desert' skills that I lack.
