I think the Janets (including beechs) have a great safety record, which is a tribute to the pilots and maintenance crew. I don't know if there is a documented crash of the commuter service prior to this one. It wasn't until Ron Brown's 737 crashed that the USAF put in real navigation hardware in the planes, let alone black boxes (cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder).
